In 2006 I created a software company to help busy moms get organized. It was called Daily Home Planner and had a calendar, meal planner, budget, journal and more. We had developed the software for Windows, and unfortunately for us, as soon as we finished, mobile was really starting to take off.

Organized Mom

We couldn’t afford to start over from scratch and make a mobile version, so we decided to shutter the project. While I was promoting the software I started the blog Organized Mom to help drive traffic to the software. The blog is still popular to this day, but I knew that “organization” was not my true passion.

Tech For Mommies Becomes Tech 4 Moms

As an IT manager, technology is where my real passion was, and I knew it was time to start a new blog where I could talk about technology. I wanted technology to be easy to understand for all people, and tried to make a play on the “dummies” series books and called my website Tech For Mommies. My first post was published Oct. 29th, 2009!

Nobody really understood the reference to the “dummies” books, and I never wanted the crash test dummies design for my website, so I quickly changed it to Tech 4 Moms. Over time I became frustrated that my male readers felt they were not “allowed” on my site. They would leave comments like “I’m not a mom, but…” or “I know I’m not your target audience, but…”. So a few years ago I rebranded to Family Tech!

Family Tech

Then I was able to talk about technology for grandparents, kids, dads, pets and more! Over the years my posting has increased and waned depending on what was going on in my life.  Never has that been more clear than earlier this year. There was a major security disaster at work and I ended up working long hours which left very little time for the blog.

With this 10 year anniversary has come a renewed passion for the website, now that my work disaster has been managed, and I’m able to cut back my hours again. I have also added a few local services like live classes, public speaking engagements, and in-home tech support.
